Credit Report and Identity Theft?

Posted on July 08, 2009 by bennyboy

A small company I worked for has my name, address, and social security number because I worked for them. I no longer trust them.
What can they do with this information?
Can they check my credit report even if they are not allowed to (htey are a company not a rental complex, not a mortgage agent.)?
Is it enough information for Identity Theft?

Yes they have enough information to do all you have stated. If they do not provide safeguards for your information it could be stolen and used for Identity Theft.

One way to protect yourself is by using LifeLock. They make sure that no one can open an account or steal your identity – with a $1,000,000 guarentee.

Yes, they probably have enough information to check your credit report – you can keep tabs on them to see if they do by watching the inquiries on your credit report. If they do check it, it will show up as an inquiry, and you can sue them for checking your report without your permission.

There is not much you can do about giving your information to an employer – if they don’t have the information, they can’t pay you.
