I have two identity theft accounts and they have become collection accounts. How can I remove them?
I have two identity theft accounts. Someone use my social security number to apply for SBC and Direct TV. I never receive bills from them. When I found out about these accounts, they already shown as collection on my credit report. These have negative effect on my credit. I called up the collection agency for SBC and told them this is not my account. They are not willing to remove me. I have called up Federal Trade Commission and reported these. They couldn’t do anything about this. I have try to consult free legal aids, they didn’t make any reply!!! How can I remove these identity theft accounts?

Contact the local police authorities & then take out a civil suite against the company that refuse to make the specific amendments. One letter from your lawyer might be enough for the company to get their butts into gear.
)
The first thing to do would definatly be to make a report with the police so that an investigation can be started.
Good luck to you.
In Australia, my ex did this to have a phone connected so he could call overseas & not have to pay the bill. The bill ended up being over AU$4,000. He eventually was caught because the poor person whos name he was using contacted the police & they went down the right channels to find out whos name was on the leasing contract for that particular address. Keep at it because you should not have to deal with this & persistance (as trying as it may get at times) will prevail.
I will prey for you
I would say, contact your local police office,
There are three different credit reporting agencies, call every single one of them, and have them "flag" your credit. Whenever someone else applies for something, they basically have to jump through hoola hoops to get an account. I feel for you seriously. My social security # is being used by three different people who I have all the names of, and noone would do anything about it. I even went to the social security office. I would try also making a police report about your identity theft, and then try calling sbc again. It may be a lengthy process, but they have to remove this from your credit. Good luck!
There are a couple of things that you can do. First, contact all 3 credit bureau reporting agencies (Experian, Equifax, and TransUnion) They all have websites and on those you can also find their phone numbers. You can also request individual credit reports from them or order a 3-in1 report (this is the fastest and easiest way to get all the info in one shot/place). However there is a fee for the 3-in-1 but it’s worth it trust me. Once you contact them, request that they put a fraud alert on your report (they do so by using your SS#) because of identity theft. Next once you get your credit reports there is a portion on them where you can dispute the information that is on your report and it will have a part where you can state I am a victim of identity theft. They will work with the places like Direct Tv and give them the information. The other option you have is that if you know who used your SS# to order these things and run up bills in your name you can take them to small claims court to get the matter resolved and once you have a judgement you can also send that to the companies to show that you are taking steps to clear up the matter. Once you dispute these items they will come off your credit report.
Go to consumer credit counseling.
Was one of the collections agencies, American Agencies? The same thing also happened to me, I called experian to dispute it and one of them was resolved and boosted my credit score, however the other result I got was saying that the information was accurate which is completely false. I have never had an account with them. In my case I don’t think it’s somebody using my SSN# but the company itself, I googled American Agencies Collection SBC and found it on http://www.ripoffreport.com and many other sites. Apparently it’s a scam and it’s happened to many people. I’m trying to get this resolved also.
